Have something to say about controversial subjects? Want to hear what other readers have to say?
Halbert’s 2nd Wednesday ZOOM study groups will get started this May 9th by systematically going through the Controversial Subjects on UBannotated’s Topical Studies page.
The quotes that get read will be the ones you pick; the ones that relate to what you have to say. We will not systematically read through all the quotes. You are encouraged to do this ahead of time. Bring current news articles or other resources that you think will help stimulate the conversation.
After taking a couple minutes for some opening remarks, the floor will be opened and we’ll see how it goes. I will provide additional food for thought and structure to the conversation if and as needed.
My hope is that we will get to know each other better, enjoy a higher level of conversation, and generally find ourselves much more engaged in the study group with a format that provides the quotes ahead of time and encourages people to bring extra “show and tell” material.
The topics for the rest of the year are set, subject to additions, by the list of Controversial Subjects. The direction that these conversations go in and the number of sessions we will spend on each topic is not set. That will be figured out as we go along.
Our first topic is “Abortion and resurrection for the unborn.” (Simply publishing this study was enough to start a mini wave of “unsubscribes” from the UBtheNEWS email list.) However you learn about this ZOOM meeting and no matter what your thoughts are on the subject, you are most welcome to come, share your perspective, and find out what others are thinking.
The meeting will not be recorded. Sorry if you can’t make it, but that seems best to me.
